Icy Explorations!

Everyday Resources: a tray, toys frozen in ice, play tools

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him.

Psalm 34:8 (New Living Translation)

Explore: the frozen items in the tray with your senses: touch, sight, smell, hearing, taste (if safe!). Let your child play and be creative. Comment on what they are doing and be curious: Tell me about that. You're exploring the... How does this feel? Do you like this? What is happening to the ice?

Wonder: connect with your child's natural sense of wonder. Seek to notice what they are drawn to and how they play. Be open to the Holy Spirit teaching you through your child.

Be thankful for your senses and the good things in your life.

Invite your child to suggest other things to freeze for next time!

Look Around You!

You are all around me – in front and in back – and have put your hand on me.

Psalm 139:5 (New Century Version)

Go on an exploring walk with the child in your life. Explain that because Daddy God, Jesus and Holy Spirit are always with us, they will be coming on our walk too!

Let your child be the leader! Encourage them to look out for what is around them that God might be highlighting to them.

Model this to them by pointing out something that you can see, or hear or feel... that God is speaking to you about.

Wonder: What about you? What are you looking at? What can you hear, feel, see? What might God be showing you? Have fun exploring and being aware of your surroundings...

Spend time receiving from Daddy God, Jesus or Holy Spirit! Be aware of what is happening in your body, mind and feelings…

Enjoy your explorations and discoveries! Draw or write about them when you get home.

Seek to be more aware of what is around you...

The Encouragement Tree

Everyday Resources: a mini tree or branch/stick with a few twigs on it, tags and string, pens, Bible, storybook, pictures

May the Lord make your love for one another and for all people grow and overflow, just as our love for you overflows.

1 Thessalonians 3:12

Chat with your child about how it feels when someone encourages us. Explain that you are going to create an encouragement tree for your family.

Find a stick with twigs on it or purchase a small fake tree.

Make some simple tags with string looped through so they can hang on the tree.

Choose a tag. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you an encouragement for someone else. Often when we ask Holy Spirit to speak the first thing that pops into our mind is from Him! Take note of what you are thinking about or hearing, feeling or sensing. The Holy Spirit will show us good and kind things that match up with the Bible.

You could also use some pictures and Bibles or storybooks for inspiration too.

Write or draw your message on the tag. Add the tag to the tree and pray for the person it is for. When there are a few tags on the tree choose one for yourself!

Be encouraged that someone has listened to the Holy Spirit and prayed for you!

Prayer Maps

Everyday Resources: maps of your area, nation, the world, LED candles, post it notes/labels, pens, Bibles

May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.

Matthew 6:10

I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven. Whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.

Matthew 16:19

Look at the different maps: Which places are you drawn to? Which places are important to you?

Ask God to speak to you about those places – what does He want to release in that place? What things in heaven does He want to be on earth? Spend time listening and sensing what He’s showing you.

Write/draw them onto the post it notes and add them onto the maps with a candle.

Pray and declare these things over the towns, cities, streets, nations.
