Glenys Nellist is one of my favourite children's authors. The clear, kind way she communicates biblical truths to children is such a gift. Baptized In The Water is no exception and serves as an excellent introduction to baptism for children!
The lovely, diverse illustrations and easy to understand text ensure the reader is in no doubt that baptism is for everyone. The message is clear that however and wherever you were baptized, it is special and beautiful and you are part of God's family.
Different ways and means of being baptized are explored on each page, from babies through to children and adults. There are sweet rhymes to add to the themes being looked at and an overarching narrative of God's love and grace covering each individual as a precious son or daughter.
This would be a helpful introduction for a child who is exploring whether they want to be baptized, as well as generally educating children about this key biblical milestone.
It would also be a great addition to a mini baptism class where you could then go into more detail about Jesus' death and resurrection and how baptism shows on the outside how a person has been changed by their friendship with Jesus on the inside.
Super for ages 4-8!
Baptism is a beautiful, holy, mysterious gift. When water is poured on a person, when prayers are said, when songs are sung, and promises are made, God's holy, invisible Spirit hovers in the air... just like it did over two thousand years ago when Jesus stepped into the waters of the River Jordan.
