Stephen Cottrell, the author, introduces himself as the ninety-eighth Archbishop of York, a man with years of experience in leading, learning and communicating. His aim with this book, 'P is for Pilgrim The Christian Faith - A journey from A to Z' is to accompany the reader on their journey of faith, wherever they may be on that journey, by providing insight and understanding to some of the key truths of Christianity.
Stephen is an excellent communicator and gifted in making the complex understandable. A wide range of concepts are covered in this A to Z, such as Advent, Forgiveness, Incarnation, Sacrament and Trinity. This is a book to dip into when needed as well as to sit with and ponder.
I like the way the author asks open-ended questions, allowing the reader to discover more for themselves through wonder and consideration. And the beautiful illustrations accompanying each letter contain plenty to explore and enjoy.
The overall accomplishment of this text is to point to Jesus, and present Him truthfully to be the saviour, the Lord, the answer and the centre of the Christian faith. I love the way this comes across through the different explanations, illustrations and bible verses.
This book is not just for children - it is excellent for anyone wanting to discover more about God for themselves, as well as to use to explain to others. It is recently published, by Hodder Faith, available in paperback or hardback and I also saw second-hand options online too.
I highly recommend it - plus it has lovely shiny letters on the front cover!
If you are searching for meaning in life and want to know more about the Christian faith, then this book is for you.
You can read it cover to cover. Or dip into it now and then.
It is about growing in faith, and it is about God's great desire in Jesus to count everyone in.
It is an A to Z. Or as Jesus said of himself, a beginning and an end.
