This is second book in the Inkwell Chronicles series and it follows on from where the first left off. The concepts introduced in the first book, 'The Ink of Elspet' are developed and deepened to create an intriguing and believable world.
Everett and his sister, Bea, have been drawn into the world of the Inklings and their ongoing search for more of the precious and wonderful substance of Ink, which enhances creativity, has healing properties and generally seems to benefit everyone who comes into contact with it. However there is a mysterious alternative called Inkanto which has very different traits.
Everett, Bea and their friends embark on an exciting adventure that takes them across continents, exploring countries such as Italy, Egypt and India. They meet hilarious new friends, dangerous enemies and old adversaries as they seek to uncover the mystery of Inkanto.
I found it an intriguing read that presented opportunities for myself and my ten year old to think and wonder about important themes such as truth, deception, greed, resilience and loyalty as the characters face various situations, difficulties and adversity.
Race to Krakatoa is a brilliant read, full of twists and turns, peril and challenge, that keep you guessing all the way. Highly recommended for ages 8-12!
A mysterious invitation. Bizarre new enemies. A perilous quest for the truth. But will it be too late?
