Adventure Times

An Adventure Time is when we use our imaginations to see, hear, and sense Jesus being with us. We can access heavenly realms, encounter Father God and engage with Holy Spirit.

The Godhead created our imagination.

We can use it for good. For example by being creative, believing God’s truth and dwelling on good things…

We can use it for bad. For example by worrying about the future negatively or imagining awful things happening…

I believe God wants to sanctify our imagination; for it to be renewed and restored to be used for His glory and our benefit.

Ephesians 4:23-24 New Living Translation

Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy

None of us want any of the children in our lives to grow up being afraid and anxious but rather we long for them to be confident, empowered and equipped by God. An Adventure Time enables children to do this, growing closer to Jesus each day.

Did you know that Jesus always gives us a choice in our friendship with Him. He continually loves us, He never leaves us, He forgives, strengthens and delights in us – His door is always open to us!

Yet, Jesus is knocking on the door of our heart: we get to choose whether we want to open it to Him. An Adventure Time is one way we, and the children we care about, can open the door of our hearts to Him, to receive His love, truth, joy, hope and more.

Revelation 3:20 New Century Version

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in and eat with you, and you will eat with me.

‘Jesus found me on the beach. I was a tiny pebble but he saw me and picked me out and then he helped me pop out of the pebble and we went and played in the sea’ Jess aged 4

Getting started!

I highly recommend checking out my Adventure Times Booklet for Parents or pdf download version, for more of my heart, the bible basis behind it, a step by step guide, testimonies and more!

Try having an Adventure Time when your child is feeling relaxed and you’re not in a hurry. Model learning together and practicing meeting with Jesus. Keep it light and fun.

Speak truths such as ‘We can meet with Jesus!’, ‘He is here with us!’, ‘ Did you know God gave us our imaginations to use for good, to be with Him?’, ‘We can learn to be with Jesus!’, ‘ I’m so excited to see what He’s going to show me…’

Get comfy and invite Holy Spirit to be with you. You could say something like: ‘We welcome you Holy Spirit. Thank you that you lead us into truth. Thank you that you can help us see, feel, hear and know Jesus more and more…’

John 14:16, 17, 26 New Century Version

Jesus said ‘I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth… the Helper will teach you everything and will cause you to remember all that I told you. This Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the Father will send in my name.’

‘I said to Jesus, “Take this worry and it will be gone forever!” He took it away. God came and held my hand and said “Whatever worry you have give it to me” I really felt his hand holding mine!’ Lily aged 10

Here’s one to try out! After welcoming Holy Spirit and setting a calm atmosphere, speak slowly, with lots of pauses and space for you and your child to connect with God.

Imagine your heart is like a home… with windows, a roof, a door and a path through a garden… What can you see?… Look, Jesus is walking up the path and he knocks on your heart door… What do you do? Do you open the door? What happens… What does Jesus do or say or show you?… Do you invite him in? What do you do together?…. Spend time with him…

‘Jesus came and knocked on the door of my heart. I let him in and he filled my heart with golden light! Now I know what Jesus looks like! Now I can meet with him anytime.’ Ben aged 9

Give time to be with Jesus, then have a go at asking open ended questions such as: Tell me about your Adventure Time? What did you see, hear, feel… Explain that to me… Tell me more… Describe what happened…

Accept and validate what is shared. Praise your child for being a great listener and friend of Jesus. They really need your encouragement and support. And allow Holy Spirit to teach you through your child as we are all still learning in our journey of faith!
