Icy Explorations!

Everyday Resources: a tray, toys frozen in ice, play tools

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8 (New Living Translation)

A great activity for a hot summer's day! Freeze plastic toys such as animals or dinosaurs in ice cube trays, freezer bags or plastic pots.

Explore: the frozen items in the tray with your senses: touch, sight, smell, hearing and taste if safe to do so and use any play tools you may have. Take time to let your child play and be creative.

Notice what they are doing and be curious: Tell me about that. You're exploring the... How does this feel? Do you like this? What is happening to the ice?

Wonder: connect with your child's natural sense of wonder. Seek to notice what they are drawn to and how they play. Be open to the Holy Spirit teaching you through your child.

Be thankful for your senses and the good things in your life. Help your child to say 'Thank you' to Creator God for their hands, eyes, the water, their toys and anything else as you explore.

Invite your child to suggest other things to freeze for next time!
