I love the many ways Holy Spirit speaks to us. He knows us so well. One of the ways He gets my attention is when the same message, theme, bible verse… keeps coming to my attention. I definitely want to stop, take notice and lean into Him for more revelation. You can find out more about this in my recent Holy Spirit Nudges blog post!
My current recurring theme is the sparrow!
- We’ve had many tiny birds visiting our garden and hopping close to us when out and about, which is impressive as I have a very active 6 year old!
- A dear friend sent me a beautiful image of her artwork of a tiny sparrow hidden in leaves (you can check out her inspiring Instagram here: Caroline Prest).
- My husband kept on playing ‘Jireh’ by Elevation Worship & Maverick City on YouTube. Six minutes in the worship leader starts singing about God watching over every sparrow so how much more does He love us!
- My son suddenly pulls out a bible he’s not read for months, opens it up and yes, you guessed it, it’s a page all about Jesus and sparrows!
I reckoned I should take notice!
I wonder what you’ve been noticing lately?
Luke 12:6-7, 24 (NLT)
Jesus said “What is the price of five sparrows—two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows… Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest, they don’t have storerooms or barns, but God feeds them. And you are worth much more than birds.”
As I leant into the Lord and His word about this, I felt Him remind me of His tender love and affection for us and for our children. He truly does see and know every sparrow, which is mindboggling in itself, and yet He loves and values us so much more. I felt Holy Spirit whisper that there was a greater measure of peace, rest and love for me to experience if I could receive and live in this truth from the Father’s heart.
Look at the birds: So next time you spot a little bird, you could draw your child’s attention to it and chat about what Jesus thinks about them and about us… and why not have an Adventure Time and imagine being a tiny bird hopping about with Jesus, seeing, hearing and feeling what He is doing, saying and showing you!
But it is even more profound when you can share what Holy Spirit is talking to you about with your child and involve them in your musings and wonderings: ‘I keep seeing this… I have heard the same thing three times this week… I read this, then I heard this, then someone told me this… I wonder what Holy Spirit is showing me?’ You will open them up to discovering another way God that speaks to us and inspire them to start looking, noticing and leaning into Jesus themselves! It’s like a wonderful treasure hunt!
Have fun taking notice of the recurring themes in your daily life! Holy Spirit is speaking to you!
